English Consonants
Par GUETRANE Selma
Welcome to Chapter 3! Unlike vowels, consonant sounds are made when air gets blocked or squeezed in the mouth. We sort every consonant using three simple questions: are your vocal cords buzzing (voicing), where in your mouth is the air blocked (place), and how is the air escaping (manner)? By looking at these three things, we can easily understand and describe every single consonant sound in English.

English Vowels
Par GUETRANE Selma
Welcome to Chapter 4! Unlike consonants, vowel sounds are produced when air flows out freely through the mouth without any blockage or friction. We sort every vowel using three simple questions: how high or low is your tongue (tongue height), is your tongue pushed forward or pulled back (tongue backness), and are your lips shaped into a circle or spread apart (lip rounding)? By looking at these three dimensions, we can easily map out and describe every single vowel sound in English.
